The bar at Fish Cheeks in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

The Mix took a brief vacation last week so that I could finish a book I have been working on for a couple of years. It will be called Bourbon and Rye Cocktails and will tell the history of the United States’ two homegrown whiskeys, Bourbon and rye, through the lens of cocktails. There will be more than 65 drink recipes. Ten Speed Press will publish the book in autumn 2026. It will be my eighth book with Ten Speed.

As Bar Regular subscribers to The Mix already know, every Bar Regular gets a free, signed advance copy of any book I write. So if you want a copy of Bourbon and Rye Cocktails before anyone else, now’s a good time to become a paid subscriber:

The Mix with Robert Simonson is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

Now, on to the Restaurant Round-Up. The Mix has in the past run capsule restaurant reviews from time to time as a lead item in the Odds and Ends section. But visits to exciting new restaurants have been piling up lately, so we decided to put them all together in one feature. Below, find write-ups of Bangkok Supper Club in Manhattan, Fish Cheeks and Jr. & Son in Brooklyn, Bastia in Philadelphia, and Il Carciofo in Chicago.
