I loved this and the references to so many great places - I’m a Brooklyn transplant and lived in Central Square a few blocks from Brick and Mortar for years! I went on a date to Green Street with my now fiancé so many years ago and that was where I discovered an odd-to-me sounding drink I took a chance on, a tequila cocktail (I’m not sure what it’s stirred with) served in a highball, topped with an IPA. It’s no longer on the menu but the bartender there always knows what I’m referencing when I ask for it!
I love the 1919 and—in spite of the fact that most of my rum-fiend friends denigrate it—agree with the cocktail purists who say a that only Old Monk is acceptable for the drink!
There is 10 cocktail! Well a 10 x 10 cocktail created by Tom Schlesinger-Guidelli when he was at Island Creek Oyster Bar for Bar Brawl the year Eastern Standard won it. Ten Cane was a sponsor spirit and the drink had an improbable 10 ingredients that actually 'all played' as they say. Riffing off that and prepping a menu for the The Hawthorne themed to the summer olympics, Katie Emmerson created the 4 x 4 - the x is pronounced 'by' and not 'times' for clarity.

I feel drunk just trying to keep all those drinks, er, numbers, straight in my head!! So worth the one day extra wait, thank you! 😎🥃
Seems like the 3-2-1 is a play on the drink’s proportions.
Robert, this reminded me how much I enjoyed Drink Boston's 1919 cocktail and it’s fascinating and surprising Boston story.
