We were last in DC (my favorite town other than NYC) two years ago when Becca took a business trip and, as is our custom, I tagged along. D&Co. is in a very cool location, indeed, and the drinks that we had were lovely, but our bartender spent much of the time telling us how she didn't drink (and the other customers around us). It was an odd evening.
Weird. I'm all for people taking care of themselves, but one should keep that matter to oneself in a bar setting, where people are there to enjoy themselves and forget their (and others') troubles. It's like working in hardware store and telling all your customers that you don't really use tools.
Ouch. Here’s to the next trip there and many more fun experiences! Try D&C again- but also every other bar Robert writes about here. My only regret this past trip was that we didn’t have more time there!!
This trip made me think there need to be more cocktails that incorporate wine intelligently.
This trip made me think we need to spend more time in D.C.!
I am 100% in your camp on this one, a very under-utilized mixer, considering wine is your base for Vermouth and Brandy.
I am intrigued by the different uses of different varietals and how they marry with various spirits.
I'm so happy to see that Death & Co. kept the Columbia Room mosaic. I appreciate their appreciation for bar history.
As I recall, it was the one question everyone had when they heard Death & Co. was taking over the space. Nobody wanted to see it disappear.

In 3 yrs time when we would feel ok to visit the USA I cannot wait to try a few of these amazing bars … thanks
I hope it is sooner than that!
We love staying at the Line when we're in DC (we have friends in the neighborhood). The drinks are always good.
They were great. Not a bad one.
They were!! So good. Love the hotel.
Hey, great read as always. Makes you wonder what if sustainable mixolgy could just rollback from the Covid impact, right?
Many bars are still trying to make it work. Golden Ratio in NYC is one of them.
