I'll be back home in San Antonio, AirBnBi g a giant historic home in the King William District just south of downtown with some family members. I'll be slinging cocktails and tinned fish, and every evening we'll walk down a block for cocktails at Bar Loretta. There used to be a historic, giant cathedral nearby that doubled as a late night dance club and specialty hot dog joint but sadly they're not in business anymore. But I Googled, and a nephew just recommended, El Chunky also nearby. So El Chunky for me and however many siblings, nieces and nephews I can bring along with me, as well as my 100-year old dad who loves hot dogs (although these will be way too fancy, and expensive, for him lol). Happy Th(Fr)anksgiving y'all!!
This year we are in Austin, TX for the holiday and would love your advice on an appropriate parlor to partake in Franksgiving. I've traditionally been a grilled sauerkraut and / or hot dog sauce kinda guy, but I'm considering the somewhat regional "Sonoran" take on the humble dog. Advice and recommendations welcome!
Austin appears to have many hotdog options, including stands that still Arizona style Sonoran hotdogs, Chicago hotdogs, and Rhode Island hotdogs. The old school Sandy’s hamburgers looks promising, as does the black sheep lodge.
Tomorrow morning I fly from LAX to Logan to spend a couple of days in Newton & Brookline, but Friday morning we will be driving down to Brooklyn & Manhattan for a couple of days. While I’d like to make it home to Mamaroneck and go to Walter’s (my love for which I have already told you of) it’s not likely to happen, so maybe we will be giving Dog Day Afternoon a try. On the other hand there has been talk of Peter Luger’s being in the cards (since our Thanksgiving will be relatively simple).
Saturday is already blocked off for a late brunch of Murray’s lox, sturgeon, sable, whitefish, etc. at my step-mother’s on the UES. (She and my dad lived at 90th and West End Ave for decades, so brunch will always be about Murray’s)
Ima be in Central Michigan for Franks- (and Thanks) giving and my partner’s folks have already located some regional Coneys outside of Ann Arbor and Lansing that Im particularly excited about
Report: Coney Island Cafe and Grill in Battle Creek MI has a solid coney dog, served with mustard, raw onions and “coney sauce” - also available as a “Southern Coney Dog” which included coleslaw.
Aw thank you. Gotta live! I really enjoy and appreciate y'all's and BTP's amazing lives as well!! Cheers!

I love your 100-year-old dad. Report back and take pictures.
He's something else, thank you will do!
Your life sounds amazing! Happy Franksgiving!
Sounds like I'll be making the 3 block walk to Dog Day Afternoon for my first Franksgiving.
Gotta get fries too!
Good choice! Everything on the menu is good.
Hello Robert,

Any suggestions for the Morristown NJ area that aren’t Rutt’s Hut? Enjoy the holiday all!
Johnny and Hange’s. Galloping Hill. Hot Grill. Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you get to Dog Day!
What to do for Carroll Gardens?! Will be on a walk in the area and surrounding neighbourhoods :) Thank you so much!
For old school, Fulton Hot Dog King on Fulton Mall. For new school Chicago dogs, Bobbi’s on Smith.
Love Bobbi's! I think we'll have to do both. Thank you!!
I will be near Worcester, MA. I will try to make it over to George's Coney Island.
Holy moly!! George’s!! That place made me cry. So beautiful! Happy Franksgiving!
I will be with a large group of vegetarians so getting out for it will be a little tricky, but I will definitely try! Happy Franksgiving!!!
I am jealous!!

That sounds excellent. Please report back.

But no raw onions on the Southern. Had to request em.
Nice!
Any dog suggestions for Atlanta?
Ooh- I wanted to go to the Varsity since Robert wrote about it this past summer - let us know how it is!
I will. I moved here 5 years ago, haven’t been yet. Good reason to go.
👏👏👏 I hope it’s great!
I would go to the Varsity. I've never been, but it's legendary.
Happy Franksgiving!
Any Franksgiving suggestions for the East Village / Union Square neighborhoods?
There is the venerable Crif Dogs on St. Mark's. McSorley's sells a Feltman's frank. And nearby Katz's has one of the best hot dogs in town.
I might just have to drop into PDT if I go to Crif Dogs
That's what I would do.
Katz's hot dog is a pro move!
Happy Franks and Thanks Day everybody!
Happy Franksgiving, Gary!!
Are there any good hot dogs in Chapel Hill or Charlotte? Shorty's looks promising. Since 1916!
Shorty's is good. Shorty has a cart and a store. We'll give him a try the next time you are down.
Sounds good!
