It’s the only, “In Search Of” that my doctor was happy about! 😂

I thought eating a bunch of salads in a row would be easy going, but some of those salads were so big.

I am heading to San Fran in a couple of weeks for a rare book fair - I will definitely hit Tadich Grill. I think I went for the Sand Dabs last visit. I do remember writing about Crab Louie back in my Gourmet days (late 1980's). I did these little mini articles on the origins of certain recipes... Ceasar Salad, etc. I have no idea how to access theses as it seems you can only access the older recipes.

I love that. Tadich was one of my favorite places in San Fran!

Fascinating writeup!

Caesar salad: San Diego/Tijuana

Cobb salad: Los Angeles

Crab Louie: San Francisco or maybe points north

Well, I guess we’ve got the Waldorf!

There’s also the wedge salad. Seems to have maybe begun at Delmonico’s under Tschirky, but it probably wasn’t quite what we’re used to, because I don’t think iceberg lettuce had quite been invented yet?

The history of that salad is even more confusing than Crab Louie.
