A subscriber wrote in and related a memory shared with him by a friend who is from Binghamton:

"OK, first hot pie. Brown’s grocery store near my grade school sold 6x6” squares of cold hot pie (dont ask) for 12 cents. Every day after school, twenty cents got you a slice of it and a 7 oz bottle of coke. If you wanted a slice of orange American cheese melted on it, it cost you an extra nickel. No one ever did. I used to go to the Oasis all the time - outstanding dive bar. Had a sense of permanence, like the guys sitting at the bar were in the seats that dads had prior, and their grandsons would have some day hence."
