Huzzah! An Astoria shout-out! Yes, “craft” cocktail prices in the neighborhood are still in the $14-$18 range, with some good happy hour deals.

Our favorite spot, Mar’s, which has recently become a bit cost-prohibitive, has six $12 drinks on offer from 4:00-6:00 (usually their twists on manhattans, Negronis, O.F.s and several shaken drinks) and $2 oysters, not to mention some fun deconstructed toddies (also $12). A throwback to when they opened 10 years ago and that was the norm.

I should also mention The Ditty up in Ditmars, which has some high-proof $10 old-fashioneds on tap during their happy hour. Affordable and lethal X^D

I can vouch that Sek'end Sun's beer and burger is an excellent deal. Also in Astoria is Sanfords. Between 4-6 is $5 beers, $7 wines and whiskeys and $1 oysters. Diamond Dogs is offering virgin hot cider during dry January.

The best happy hour deal (and cheapest cocktail bar) in New York is Wandering Barman, an East Williamsburg bar with cocktails on tap. All cocktails are $5 from 5-7pm, every day. Normally they are $11.

I've had a good amount of the menu and the drinks range from very good to great! Most aren't carbonated, which gives it a leg up over Double Chicken Please's front room.

Location, location, location! We are very fortunate to exist where we do and own our building. $12 per cocktail is a bargain anymore, and Tuesday's all night happy hour (currently featuring all Milk & Honey cocktails - we like to spotlight influences with this menu) at $8 is a draw. I cannot imagine competing in a large market, as this pricing feels "right" to us - and allows us to pay a livable wage and provide benefits. I do believe that more amenable pricing exists in some damn good bars - just outside of the larger markets. The happy hour list will come in handy for our next NYC trip! Cheers!
