There are days when having married a vegetarian is hard. Will be forwarding this to friends with the hope they may just have a little left over. Happy Thanksgiving!
This recipe took me back to my days (1980-1992) living in Cobble Hill, corner of Henry and DeGraw Streets. One block from the Cammareri Bakery. I loved their lard bread (available Saturdays and sold out quickly), their sesame breadsticks and their whole wheat baguette (a feature at the River Café). The Cammareri family owned the shop when I lived there. The two Cammareri brothers, the bakers, married two sisters, and the four of them ran the business. Good people, all. I was there when Moonstruck was filmed. In the early 90s, I believe, they sold the bakery to a gentleman and his family, whose face I can picture although I’ve forgotten his name. I often think about that bakery and of their lovely breads, and long for just one more taste. Thanks for sparking a delicious memory!
What a wonderful memory, thank you! We were neighbors! Robert’s favorite Lard Bread was the Cammareri bread—and he can tell you the story of how he bought their bakery sign long after they closed that shop. It’s a good one! ❤️
I can definitely vouch for how delicious your stuffing is! I think the Parisi Bakery on my corner makes lard bread as a special one day a week. I'm going to have to get some.
OMG this is a recipe from foodie heaven - channeled to Mary Kate. So glad we live not far from the Picolla Gastronomia Italia and right up the block from Cafasso’s Fairway in Fort Lee NJ both homes to Al goo things Italian. Lard Bread stuffing here we come! Thank you Mary Kate - and Robert. 🙏🏻
Lard bread?!? 🤯. Must find, or make. Living 3 states away from family I don't always make it home for Tday so I've spent it with friends many times over the last 23 years. I'm used to TexMex tamales as part of any holiday meals. Doing Tday with friends is good, but not really the same as with family. Since I left home I've learned so much about other foods and traditions people make for Tday. Enjoy, and cheers!
I, too, love stuffing. And this is the best stuffing I’ve had. Such a simple idea, but genius.
You do love stuffing, and Lard Bread. ❤️
You need to make a video and post it
that’s a good idea.
We are going out for the holiday, but I might have to make a batch of this for myself anyway. Hey, I could freeze portions, right?
Yes! 👏👏👏
I have got to make this!
Yes, you do! And we have to make that other thing too!
Wow! That’s all.
Also I enjoy your writing. ☺️
Thanks! 🤗
My mom's family is from Naples. We have now and always will call it lard bread. Bravo to you for taking it on. I tried once and failed miserably!
I love love love Naples!
