Not really. But possibly try an amaro that had a heavy baking-spice note and is on the mild side. Even if it doesn't taste exactly the same, it's likely to be a tasty cocktail. A small touch of more amaros usually make for a decent Manhattan riff.
we have amaro nonino so can use that, per the recipe. We just don't have the allspice dram so would have to miss out on that. At least I don't think I have that anywhere :)
Fun interview! I remember when Dan posted that question and it was a blast reading all the wild stories. Sadly Twitter lost that charm and you'd likely not get anything near that kind of response today. As a non-New Yorker but someone who used to visit often (since I was 13) I think I shared a story, too. I love that he turned it into a book and built upon the tweets. Nice work!
Had been looking for something from your Substack for tonight, decided this was it and dang that Manhattan variation is going on my regular rotation. Will have to start infusing some gin with hibiscus for another at a later time. Cheers.
And the cocktail “That’s So New York” is really good!
It is!
I was going to comment about this -- I have all the ingredients except the allspice dram. Is there an easy substitute?

Yes, that question posted on today's X would produce very different material!

Cheers! Those are both good recipes.
