I used to bike past the Karl Ehmer factory on Fresh Pond Rd. Amazing art deco building and signage. Went looking for it recently . . . they tore it down and built a g-dforsaken ugly as sin storage complex on the spot.
Why does the Newburgh Karl Ehrmer butcher shop hot dog cart get its hot dogs from Forest Pork Store (a block from my apt!) in Ridgewood? Why wouldnt they just make them inside the butcher shop?
I’m sure in the past Karl Ehmer in Hillsdale sold nothing but Karl Ehmer products. But today this butcher shop sells a variety of meats by a variety of makers. They have Karl Ehmer sausages, but also sausages by other people like Schaller and Weber. my guess is they have a long-standing relationship with Forest Park store because Karl Ehmer was once based in Ridgewood as well.
I love this new tradition! Nothing to cook, no crazy crowds, just talking and laughing and hot dogs -- and one amazing patty melt! ❤️
And one very good driver!
